My name is Todd B. Feasel. I am a blessed counselor, administrator, and father of three. I have bachelors degree in psychology from Mount Vernon Nazarene University and a masters in clinical counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary.

Most of my life has been about trying to understand change, specifically, how to create positive change in individuals, relationships, families, and organizations. My pursuit began near then end of my high school education as I struggled to understand how to cope with losing my father when I was thirteen. I discovered in the process that I had gained the ability to better understand others and empathize with them. This set me on a career path to becoming a part of the helping profession of counseling.

Over the years, I have worked in community mental health, private practice, and addictions as well as teaching. I am independently license as a professional clinical counselor in the State of Ohio with an additional endorsement as a clinical supervisor.

I have always been very ambitious and entrepreneurially minded throughout my career. In my most recent position, I have had the opportunity to let this mindset flourish as the director for the Ohio office of Cornerstone of Recovery. I have been with Cornerstone since November of 2008, when this outpatient addiction treatment center was only an idea, without even a building to cal its own. By utilizing my understanding of people, systems, and networking/relationship building, I have seen Cornerstone’s outpatient flourish and expand. We recently moved into a new, larger office with plans to expand into inpatient care and are well on our way to being the premier addictions treatment center in central Ohio.

To make sure your life coach is qualified and can deliver what you need, here are 9 tips to consider.

1. Experience

Does the coach have work experience comparable to yours? It is estimated that about 75% of self-proclaimed career coaches actually have little-to-no experience in the workplace and have only been trained in life coaching. Such individuals may have a number of suggestions that seem wise on the surface, but have few practical suggestions on how to help you achieve your professional goals. Terry has over 28 years of solid life experience in successful family life, Christian ministry, homeschooling and college life, as a business owner, a business development manager, and in missions outreach support.

2. Credentials

Terry is seeking membership in the Temperament Certification Program at Synergy Leaders Group.

3. Credibility

Presenting new ideas, 100% committed. Terry is currently earning his PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at the University of Phoenix.

4. Testimonials

Request that the coach provide you with references from past clients. If he or she declines, or if you're offered just one or two, this could be a point of concern. You should certainly inquire as to why you cannot have a broad(er) sample. Whether there may have been bad experiences or no experiences (due to inexperience) in the past, there could be something that is not quite on the level. Do some research on the Web and see if you find any comments about this individual. References are available upon request!

5. Methods

Some coaches insist that you come to their location in person; others will agree to meet with you at a local coffee shop or even work with you by phone or by email. If you would prefer a particular meeting location or method, make sure the coach you're considering will at least discuss your request. Neutral sites are preferred.

6. Goals

Any decent career coach should be able to help you find and establish your personal/professional goals. However, before meeting with anyone, take some time to determine your own goals and potential milestones. When you do meet with your coach, inquire as to when you can expect to see results, and what those results might look like. If your coach is unable to give you answers in this regard, he or she is asking you to drive without directions. This is discussed during the free consultation along with our 42 step process to help you achieve those goals.

7. Consultation

Your first meeting is vital in establishing the extent to which your potential coach and you are compatible (or not). Don't forget: this is an individual with whom you will be revealing personal aspects and details of your life. Make sure you make the most of the first session, but also bear in mind that the first consultation should be free. Beware of anyone who charges for an initial consultation.

8. Guarantee

Inquire as to what sort of guarantee the coach provides. While there are many factors in beginning a new journey with your family, faith, educational dreams, and business/ career aspirations, as well as securing the right position, you are paying for a service and should end up satisfied. For example, imagine that in spite of all your work and investigations into improving your professional situation, your energy spent with the life coach, the work doesn't lead anywhere. In such a situation, what recourse will you have? Will he or she refund your money, extend the term of service, or does the coach offer an alternative plan? Client is not obligated to pay for any session they do not feel confident about. Once the client makes a session payment there are no refunds! Session payment is not due until the end of the session. Non-Payment terminates any further sessions until payment is made current!

9. Fees

Career coach rates vary substantially with coaches who target middle managers charging anywhere from $50 to $700 for sessions that may last an hour or an entire day. Some coaches want to meet with you only a few times, to help you get started in a new direction, while others want to work with you in a far more long-term manner. Some individuals provide you with various materials to supplement your coaching sessions; others rely more on the outcome of your meetings.
